Summer Camp: Simple Machines + Smart Design

Ever wonder what’s inside everyday objects? Have you questioned how things work? In this summer camp, campers become engineers and problem-solvers as they take apart common items to discover the simple machines hiding inside.

Through guided exploration, campers investigate levers, pulleys, wheels and axles, inclined planes, wedges and screws by safely deconstructing tools, toys and household items.

Campers will test force, observe motion and learn how these simple machines make work easier in the world around us.

To wrap up the week, campers apply their new knowledge by designing and building a creative, upcycled project using reclaimed materials. Each camper takes home a one-of-a-kind creation—proof that understanding how things work can lead to smarter, more sustainable designs!

Summer Camp: Science on a Plate

Get ready to cook, experiment and explore! Join us on a flavorful journey across the United States while uncovering the science behind what happens in the kitchen.

Each day highlights a different U.S. region — Northeast, South, Midwest, Southwest and West Coast — through its unique foods, cultural traditions and local ingredients.

As campers prepare regional dishes, they’ll dive into daily food science concepts like chemical reactions, states of matter, heat transfer, fermentation, emulsions and nutrition.

How does heat change food? What makes flavors blend? Campers conduct fun experiments, make observations and connect science concepts directly to the recipes they create.

Designed for curious cooks of all experience levels, this camp blends culture, chemistry and creativity into an engaging learning experience! By week’s end, campers will not only taste their way across the country but also gain a deeper understanding of the science that makes cooking work — one delicious discovery at a time!
