Industrial Revolution to Modern Times (Final Session of 3-Part Series)

Discover how modern technology, preservation, and agricultural innovation turned corn into a powerhouse of global nutrition! Join us at Food + Farm Exploration Center for the final chapter of Taste of History: The Agricultural & Culinary Journey of Corn, a three-part culinary history series led by Chef Dave. Examine how freezing, canning, and industrial processing revolutionized the way we grow and store sweet corn today while sampling nostalgic vintage recipes alongside innovative modern culinary trends, complete with take-home recipe cards and a plated meal.

PRICING & TICKET OPTIONS

  • Full 3-Session Series Bundle: $120 per person (Save $30 when you register for all 3 sessions prior to October 12!)

  • Individual Session Ticket: $50 per person (per session)

  • Member Discount: Members save 10% on all ticket options

THREE-PART SERIES SCHEDULE

This program has three sessions in the series. Sessions will start at 5:30 PM and take approximately 2 hours. You don’t have to attend every session, but we recommend attending all to get the full experience!

  • Session 1 (Ancient Times to Colonization): Thursday, October 15, 2026

  • Session 2 (Colonization to Industrial Revolution): Thursday, October 29, 2026

  • Session 3 (Industrial Revolution to Modern Times): Thursday, November 19, 2026

SESSION THREE DETAILS

  • Location: Kitchen Lab

  • Registration Deadline: Monday, November 16, 2026

  • Capacity: Limited to 28 participants

  • Includes: Presentations, live culinary demonstrations, take-home recipe cards, tasting samples, and a plated meal-sized portion. (Note: Menu samples and recipes are subject to minor adjustments based on ingredient availability).

  • Modern Ag & Preservation Innovations: Explore how breakthroughs in freezing, canning, and milling revolutionized food security and modern sweet corn production.

  • Vintage & Retro Sampling: Taste historic Depression-era Hoover stew alongside classic Libby’s baked parmesan creamed corn.

  • Featured Plated Meal: Enjoy a modern culinary main course featuring Frito-baked chicken served over smooth sweet corn purée with blistered cherry tomatoes and fresh green beans.

  • Interactive Learning: Gain a deeper appreciation for Wisconsin's agricultural roots while learning in our state-of-the-art Kitchen Lab.

  • Session 1 | Ancient Times to Colonization: Discover how early farmers cultivated wild corn, taste tamales and Oneida white corn mush, and enjoy a meal featuring fish (a state favorite)!

  • Session 2 | Colonization to Industrial Revolution: Explore how growing corn has changed in America, taste johnny cakes, and enjoy a BBQ Pulled Pork meal with two sides featuring corn!
