Trace the rapid evolution of corn production as America expanded from early colonial settlements into the Industrial Revolution! Join us at Food + Farm Exploration Center for the second installment of Taste of History: The Agricultural & Culinary Journey of Corn, a three-part culinary history series led by Chef Dave. Learn about pioneer agriculture tools, field practices, and early recorded recipes while watching live cooking demonstrations and enjoying authentic tasting samples, recipe cards, and a comforting fall meal.

THREE-PART SERIES SCHEDULE
This program has three sessions in the series. Sessions will start at 5:30 PM and take approximately 2 hours:

Session 3 (Industrial Revolution to Modern Times): Thursday, November 19, 2026

Location: Kitchen Lab

Capacity: Limited to 28 participants
Includes: Presentations, live culinary demonstrations, take-home recipe cards, tasting samples, and a plated meal-sized portion. (Note: Menu samples and recipes are subject to minor adjustments based on ingredient availability).
WHAT TO EXPECT IN SESSION TWO
Colonial Agricultural Evolution: Learn about early harvest tools, soil practices, and how European settlers adapted indigenous corn to build early American food systems.
Historic Recipe Sampling: Taste classic early-American staples including traditional Johnny cakes and hasty pudding.
Featured Plated Meal: Enjoy a hearty meal featuring tender BBQ pulled pork paired with sweet corn succotash and freshly baked cornbread.
Interactive Learning: Gain a deeper appreciation for Wisconsin's agricultural roots while learning in our state-of-the-art Kitchen Lab.

Session 1 | Ancient Times to Colonization: Discover how early farmers cultivated wild corn, taste tamales and Oneida white corn mush, and enjoy a meal featuring fish (a state favorite)!
Session 3 | Industrial Revolution to Modern Times: Learn more about how we maximized our use of corn through technology while enjoying vintage and modern recipes like Hoover stew and a crunchy Frito chicken.
