Farming for the Future Foundation is proud to announce the launch of our educational curriculum pilot program. Education Program Manager Jenn Scott said the lessons are designed to help students realize their own connection to agriculture and expand upon it.

Board of Director Michelle Peariso is no stranger to agriculture. Her family has been farming since before she was born. “As every farm kid knows, if your parents farm, the family farms,” Peariso said.

“I feel like I truly have a purpose in providing the world with, in my case, potato chips, but ultimately providing people with food and nourishment,” said Lynn Leahy, a research agronomist.

“Without tires, farmers can’t go anywhere,” said Paul Seehafer, Commercial and Farm Tire Technician with Schierl Tire.

“I would say I am the eyes and the ears for farmers.” Meet Kelly Verhaalen, a Crop Management Specialist.

Despite the myths surrounding canned vegetables, they can be more nutritious than fresh vegetables in some cases.

Jenn Scott joined Farming for the Future this month as the Education Program Manager.

Scott joins the team with an extensive background in agricultural education."

The years in the classroom are where I discovered my passion for the science side of agriculture,” Scott said.

“My position contributes to the industry by helping our front-line workers have the necessary tools to work with growers to get the biggest return on their investment, work in a sustainable fashion and have the proper solutions to help feed the world,” Tubbs said.

“My role is to tell the agriculture story,” Gerbitz said. “I contribute to the industry by highlighting the good and equipping farmers with the tools that they need to share their story themselves as well.”

“As an agricultural communicator I get to work with the most resilient inspiring and innovative group of people that you will ever get to meet,” she said.

Developing and enhancing equipment that meets customers' needs is a primary concern for Design Engineers.

Josh Graeve, an Engineering Manager, has worked at John Deere for more than 20 years. He oversees mowing and cutting products in the Hay and Forage Division. His favorite part of the job is being able to connect with the customers and help find solutions to their ever-changing needs.

Advanced technology has affected how food is grown, processed and purchased.

Most people do not associate technology and agriculture together. However, the truth is that technology directly affects how a growing population accesses food.

There is no “one size fits all” effort in understanding agricultural finance or the importance of it within the industry.

Financial needs vary throughout the production cycle.

"Yeah, I wanted to be a pilot, but what we do is almost closer to farming than aviation,” Curt Meister, an agricultural pilot and one of the owners of Reabe Spraying Services said.

Agricultural pilots apply seeds, chemicals, fertilizers and other dry applications in fields where traditional spray rigs may not be always have access.

“Eating better, I think logically, is just choosing food that really fuels your body in the best way for you, and that's not the same for everyone,” Alison Carter said.

October is National Eat Better, Eat Together Month, which encourages families to make healthier choices and share more meals together. We are featuring Alison Carter, author of “My New Normal: Learning to Thrive with Chronic Illness.” Carter shares how food has helped shape who she is today.

The agriculture industry relies on transportation.

It is utilized in every aspect of food production from planting to harvest to final product distribution. A shortage in transportation strains the supply chain and can lead to empty grocery store shelves.

“My job is to make sure my research is highly applied,” Dr. Yi Wang, an Agriculture Researcher and Associate Professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison, said.

Wang’s role as an Agricultural Researcher is composed of three parts: teaching, researching and extension services.

Farmers and processors have been voluntarily implementing sustainable agriculture practices for decades.

“Sustainability is definitely a buzzword today, but farmers have been sustainability trailblazers from the very beginning,” Rachel Gerbitz, Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Director of Sustainability Communications and Partnerships, said. “It’s always been a concern for Wisconsin farmers.”

Meet Soil Conservationist Derek Husmoen.

“I have always been interested in soil and water conservation from a young age,” he said. “I guess in high school, I knew I wanted to stay in the agriculture field, and I have always liked soil and water conservation, so I just kind of stuck with it. That’s how I got into it.”

Education is the primary pillar on which Farming for the Future Foundation was established.

FFTFF exists to educate current and future generations about agricultural innovation and sustainability. The importance of agriculture cannot be overstated.
