Wisconsin Crop of the Month – Snap Beans

Would it surprise you to learn Wisconsin produces the most Snap Beans in the nation? It is true!

Originating in Central America, Snaps Beans have been grown in the western hemisphere since before Christopher Columbus arrived. Like all beans, Snap Beans are members of the legume family.

Snap Beans are grown in two unique ways. They can be grown standing upright without the need for support called Bush Beans. Pole Beans are grown with supports for the beans to climb. You will find fresh Snap Beans in season between July and October.

Beans are full of vitamins and minerals! They contain vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin K, are packed with minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese and potassium and are a good source of fiber and potassium.
