Organization Overview
Food + Farm Exploration Center (F+FEC), in partnership with Farming for the Future Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating current and future generations about agricultural innovation and sustainability. Located in Plover, Wisconsin, F+FEC aims to deepen the understanding of modern agriculture, promote agricultural literacy, and foster connections between farmers and consumers. Position Overview
The part-time Guest Services Staff member serves as the welcoming face of Food + Farm Exploration Center, providing exceptional customer service to visitors through front desk operations, admissions, and gift shop transactions. This role is essential in creating a positive and engaging experience by offering wayfinding assistance, addressing guest inquiries, and supporting various center activities. The position requires a proactive, organized individual who can efficiently manage multiple responsibilities, including cash handling, inventory support, and communication. Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and special events is vital to support the dynamic nature of the center’s operations and community engagement mission.
Essential Responsibilities
Serve as the first point of contact at the front desk, welcoming guests while handling admission and gift shop transactions.
Provide wayfinding assistance and respond to guest inquiries professionally.
Proactively identify and help resolve guest concerns, involving a supervisor when needed.
Handle front desk communications by regularly checking shared email and phone messages, answering promptly, and documenting shift updates, guest feedback, and unresolved issues.
Maintain an accurate and organized cash drawer, following all cash handling procedures.
Perform opening and closing procedures to ensure the front desk and public areas are prepared, secure, and accurately reconciled at the start and end of each shift.
Support gift shop inventory by restocking merchandise, receiving deliveries, and participating in inventory counts, ensuring proper rotation and tidy displays.
Keep the front desk and gift shop clean, organized, and presentable.
Participate in ongoing training to maintain proficiency with front desk systems, POS software, and guest service protocols.
Support cross-departmental needs by assisting with tasks related to events, operations, marketing, and other areas as directed.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in customer service, guest relations, or retail environments.
Experience using point of sale (POS) systems.
Comfortable using technology and quick to learn new software systems.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse personalities.
High level of accountability, efficiency, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic, and keen attention to detail.
Ability to coordinate and prioritize various tasks effectively.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.
Interest in and enthusiasm for community engagement, particularly in science, technology, and/or agricultural education, is preferred.
Work Schedule
This part-time role is scheduled for 20–25 hours per week.
Availability is required for 2 weekends per month and occasional evenings to support center events and operations.
Shifts may vary but typically last 6 to 8 hours with scheduled breaks.
Flexibility to accommodate special events or peak visitor times is essential.
Physical Demands
Able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
Physical requirements include but are not limited to stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing (ladders), reaching above the shoulders, lifting of up to 25lbs.
