Organization Overview

Food + Farm Exploration Center (F+FEC), in partnership with Farming for the Future Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating current and future generations about agricultural innovation and sustainability. Located in Plover, Wisconsin, F+FEC aims to deepen the understanding of modern agriculture, promote agricultural literacy, and foster connections between farmers and consumers. By creating a space for learning and engagement, F+FEC provides an opportunity for people to explore the world of agriculture and better understand the origins of their food.

Position Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic, part-time Ag Ambassadors to join our team at F+FEC. This frontline role is essential to delivering an exceptional visitor experience.

Ag Ambassadors are assigned to either a front desk or exhibit floor roles for each shift based on operational needs. At the front desk, they welcome visitors, support admissions and retail transactions, and provide information and wayfinding. On the exhibit floor, they engage visitors throughout the Ag STEM Gallery, monitor exhibits, and assist with basic troubleshooting to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

This role requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and a proactive, visitor-focused mindset. Ag Ambassadors also support informal education by hosting story times, leading exhibit and greenhouse tours, and assisting with drop-in programs and activities.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special events is required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact at the front desk, welcoming visitors and managing admission and gift shop transactions.

  • Greet all visitors with a friendly, positive, and professional demeanor.

  • Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously.

  • Manage front desk communications by monitoring shared email and voicemail, responding in a timely manner, and documenting shift updates, visitor feedback, and unresolved issues.

  • Complete opening and closing procedures to ensure the front desk and public areas are prepared, secure, and accurately reconciled.

  • Maintain an organized and accurate cash drawer in accordance with cash handling procedures.

  • Ensure the front desk and gift shop are clean, organized, and visually appealing.

  • Support gift shop operations by restocking merchandise, receiving deliveries, and assisting with inventory counts and merchandising.

  • Act as a docent in exhibit spaces, engaging visitors and supporting interactive learning experiences.

  • Conduct routine rounds to monitor exhibit functionality and visitor experience.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor exhibit issues in a timely manner; escalate as needed.

  • Reset and maintain exhibit spaces, including cleaning and organizing materials.

  • Assist with Farm Tech Shed activities, including setup, teardown, and cleaning for school lunches and programs.

  • Support education department with drop-in events and programming such as story times, greenhouse and exhibit tours, and demonstration field activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in customer service.

  • Ability to troubleshoot technology.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills.

  • Experience or education in agriculture, agronomy, soil science, or a related field is a plus.

  • 1-2 weekends a month and occasional Thursday evenings until 7PM are required.

    • Additional evening and weekend activities and events will be scheduled well in advance.

Physical Demands

  • Able to stand and sit for long periods of time.

  • Physical requirements include but are not limited to stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing (ladders), reaching above the shoulders, lifting of up to 50lbs.
