Exhibit Technician (Part Time)
Organization Overview
Food + Farm Exploration Center (F+FEC), in partnership with Farming for the Future Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating current and future generations about agricultural innovation and sustainability. Located in Plover, Wisconsin, F+FEC aims to deepen the understanding of modern agriculture, promote agricultural literacy, and foster connections between farmers and consumers. By creating a space for learning and engagement, F+FEC provides an opportunity for people to explore the world of agriculture and better understand the origins of their food.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic part-time Exhibit Technician for the Food + Farm Exploration Center located in Plover, WI. As a vital frontline position, you will be responsible for ensuring the exhibits remain operational and our guests are assured the best possible experience during their visit. Exhibit Technicians are responsible for monitoring more than 60 immersive exhibits in the Ag Stem Gallery of the exploration center. Your daily activities will require interacting with guests to give them the feeling of being welcomed by friendly, competent professionals who are happy to see them!
You will report directly to the Operations and Exhibits Director. To be successful, you will require exceptional communication skills, comfort with troubleshooting technology and mechanics, must display excellence and professionalism to visitors of all ages, and must be ready to own and develop new assignments to further our mission. Additionally, you will be deeply involved with our demonstration fields and have the opportunity to lead guided tours through them to discuss innovations and sustainability in modern agriculture with our visitors. We are a rapidly evolving organization that will provide the successful candidate opportunities in many areas of the facility.
Essential Responsibilities
Greet visitors in a friendly and hospitable manner.
Check people into the exhibits and provide a brief overview of the exhibits.
Act as a docent in the exhibit space helping our visitors interact with our exhibits and learn the desired content.
Make rounds every 15 minutes to ensure every exhibit is running properly.
Troubleshoot impaired exhibits to get them functioning as rapidly as possible.
Reset exhibit space after visitors have used or moved items.
Clean the exhibits.
Assist with Farm Tech Shed activities including school lunch setups, teardowns and cleaning.
Participate in demonstration field activities as needed, including leading guided tours, planting, harvesting, and other activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
1-3 years’ of customer service experience.
Ability to troubleshoot technology.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
Experience or education in agriculture, agronomy, soil science, or related field.
Weekends and evenings required.
Physical Demands
Able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
Physical requirements include but are not limited to stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling/kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing (ladders), reaching above the shoulders, lifting of up to 50lbs.
