Tot Time Registration & Week 1: Seeds & Planting

  • Food + Farm Exploration Center 3400 Innovation Drive Plover, WI 54467 USA (map)

Dig into the world of agriculture with our 4-week Tot Time program! Every month, we spotlight a different Wisconsin-grown crop, allowing little learners to explore the science and stories behind our food.

Each week, families will enjoy open exploration in our Seedlings Gallery, facilitator-led activities throughout Food + Farm Exploration Center, and a delicious snack pertaining to the monthly theme. Through hands-on play and greenhouse exploration, children will experience the amazing ways food travels from the field to their fork. Tot Time takes a break for the summer so don’t miss your chance to join us this month!

  • Read: A Fruit is a Suitcase for Seeds

  • Sing: A special seed song to get moving.

  • Explore: Find "seed suitcases" like peas, corn, and tomatoes growing in the greenhouse.

  • Create: Craft your own paper seed suitcase and plant a seed in a pot to monitor its growth all month long.

  • Taste: Fresh apples with nut butter.

Week 2: This week, we head to the Makerspace to explore the delicious seeds we eat—from sunflowers to nuts.

  • Read: Let’s Go Nuts! and Mommy’s Little Sunflowers

  • Sing: Our favorite seed song.

  • Explore: Visit the greenhouse to check the progress of the seeds we planted last week.

  • Create: Get hands-on in the kitchen to make homemade Sunflower Seed Bars.

Week 3: We’re putting on our scientist hats to take a closer look at the tiny details of spring seeds.

  • Read: Little Seasons: Spring Seeds

  • Sing: Our signature seed song.

  • Explore: Use microscopes to see seeds up close and match seed cards to their adult fruits and vegetables.

  • Create: Practice counting skills by finding and counting seeds hidden in the soil.

  • Taste: "Garden Art" graham crackers with cream cheese, fruit slices, and seeds.

Week 4: What happens under the dirt? We’re finishing the month by learning about the roots that keep our plants strong.

  • Read: And Then the Seed Grew

  • Sing: One last seed song celebration.

  • Explore: Solve a "root maze" and draw the hidden roots of different Wisconsin plants.
