Craft Your Own Functional Art with Joanne Raabe
Join us at Food + Farm Exploration Center for a creative morning of traditional craftsmanship. In this three-hour workshop, you will learn foundational basketry techniques to create a sturdy and stylish market basket. We will guide you through laying a closed-bottom base, weaving structured sides, and finishing with a professional lashed rim.
The finished basket features a 10”x16” base and a 14” tall handle—making it the ideal companion for carrying fresh produce from the farmer’s market, flowers, or picnic supplies. It is also the perfect accessory to bring back during harvest season to pick your own produce during our U-Pick Harvest Days! No prior experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided.
Meet Your Instructor: Joanne Raabe Joanne is an art educator with over a decade of experience dedicated to the joy of guiding others through the creative process. Coming from a long line of artists and teachers, she fell in love with basketweaving’s ability to turn simple materials into functional art. For Joanne, the best part of making art isn't just the finished piece—it’s the community and conversation that grow when people gather to create together.
