This in-depth Tractor and Farm Safety Course provides youth with essential training in agricultural safety, hazard awareness, and safe tractor operation. Participants receive classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and supervised driving practice to meet Wisconsin Act 455 and U.S. Department of Labor Agriculture Hazards Occupation Order. Upon successful completion of written and driving exams, participants earn the required certification for legal tractor operation in applicable work settings.
AGENDA
Monday, 8:00 AM-3:00 PM: Instructional presentation. Participants need to bring a lunch.
Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00 AM-12:00PM: Training including tractor operation (including safety, instruments, controls, proper use, and limitations) , farm safety techniques, reducing injury risks and identifying hazards, maintenance and safety inspections.
Friday, 8:00 AM-12:00PM: Driving practicum, scheduled in half-hour increments.
Optional Driving Practice: Wednesday and Thursday after class.

Must pass practical driving examination demonstrating safe operation of tractor

Cost: $75 per participant
Age: Designed for youth 12-17 years of age who will be operating tractors or self-propelled implements of husbandry on public roads under direction of their parent or guardian for work-related to their family farm operation and/or 14-15 years of age who will be employed or working without pay on a farm other than their family farm and completes the requirements for a federal certificate of training. Priority registration for participants 12-15 years of age.
