An Immersive Sensory Journey from Greenhouse to Kitchen

Discover the journey of lavender, one of Wisconsin’s most aromatic and versatile crops. Join Food + Farm Exploration Center for an immersive experience that begins among the vibrant rows of our Greenhouse and outside overlooking the farm fields, then concludes with a hands-on culinary session in our state-of-the-art Kitchen Lab.

You’ll gain an insider’s perspective on lavender production and its growing importance in Wisconsin agrotourism. Learn how to translate these aromatic flavors into your own home kitchen through expert-led demonstrations and hands-on crafting. Whether you are a gardener, a foodie, or a fan of local agriculture, this workshop offers a unique "field-to-fork" perspective on this trending crop.

EVENT DETAILS

  • Cost: $50 per person

  • Member Discount: 10% off

  • Capacity: 28 participants

  • Age Requirement: Suggested age 12+ (Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Must be 21+ to consume alcohol.)

  • Preparation: Please dress for the weather, as a portion of this experience will take place outdoors overlooking the demonstration fields.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Greenhouse & Herb Exploration: Kick off the evening with a refreshing lavender sangria or a blueberry lavender lemonade. Explore our herb planters and learn the ins and outs of growing lavender at scale and why it is becoming a highlight in Wisconsin’s agrotourism scene.

  • The Kitchen Lab: Head to the kitchen to learn the secrets of using and preserving fresh herbs. Watch a live demonstration of Lavender Ricotta Crostini with lavender cherry compote and enjoy a virtual demo and sample of our Maple Lavender BBQ sauce served over country-style pork ribs.

  • Creative Hands-On Activity: Get artistic as you learn to decorate lavender-infused cookies with royal icing—perfect to enjoy on-site or take home for later.

  • Take-Home Treasures: Each participant will take home their own lavender plant to grow, a sample of our custom BBQ sauce, and a portion of lavender sugar to inspire your next kitchen creation.

  • The Colorful Plate Café: Arrive early to enjoy specialty lavender drinks from our café, or stop by during our brief intermission.

  • Seating: Please note that reserved tables are not available. You’ll seat yourself, so please plan accordingly if you are attending with a group. You may be sitting with others and make some new foodie friends!
